In this episode, we taste a Sancerre, but a special Sancerre in that it is a Red Sancerre.
Sancerre is world renown and by many is viewed to be the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world.
Red wine from the region is not however so well known and typically is made with Pinot Noir.
On the nose, this wine didn’t exhibit the normal forest floor scent for John L whilst John M could smell it very very faintly.
The Scent from the wine was very light but strawberry fruit could be detected.
On the taste, the wine seems very one dimensional, the taste of strawberry was present but in John M’s view the tannins were a little too heavy for the lighter tasted experienced with this wine.
Our view of this particular wine, (Sancerre Rouge Les Champs Clos Pinot Noir is available from Sainsbury’s for £11.50) overall was disappointing from it’s lack of complexity of taste given the price.
