We taste this Ramon Bilbao Crianza Rioja as a follow-on from a wine we tasted recommended by a viewer – Ben Allen.
The wine recommended by Ben was the Ramon Bilbao Tempranillo and whilst buying the Tempranillo we spotted the Crianza on the shelf next to it, at only £1:00 more expensive, so decided to give this a try as well in way of comparison.
So is the extra £1:00 worth it!
The colour is much deeper than the Tempranillo, a great garnet colour.
On the nose, the oak is very evident which hid the fruit aromas.
Taste wise the wine has a much better mouthfeel with a nice amount of oak and cherry flavours.
There is also a hint of liquorice and pepper in the aftertaste.
The tannins are nicely balanced.
The length of taste far exceeds the Tempranillo and this alone makes the extra £1:00 well worth it.
