We review a Christian Patat Appassimento wine produced in the Puglia region of Italy from the negroamaro grape.
The Appassimento in the name refers to a process of leaving grapes in the sun after being harvested to dry out slightly to intensify their sugars and their taste.
The word appassimento is derived from the Italian verb – “appassire” to wither.
This bottle was kindly donated by friends and viewers – Dan and Vicky Fitzpatrick.
Dan runs several businesses in custom-made pine and oak furniture as well as producing wooden beer pump handles and stripping painted doors back to the raw wood by a process known as double dipping.
This wine is Dan and Vicky’s current go-to wine and so they were interested to find out what we thought of it and kindly gave us a bottle to try.
The wine is a great burgundy colour. John L detected an unusual but pleasant solvent scent!
The taste is immensely powerful indeed without being over the top.
The cherry shines through together with hints of coffee and liquorice.
At £9.99 a great value wine.
