We taste a Georges Duboeuf Fleurie.
George Duboeuf started his life in wine cranking the manual wine crusher when he was six years old in his family’s vineyard.
At 18 years old he began delivering wines on his bicycle from producers to local restaurants.
From there he went on to bottling Beaujolais and formed a syndicate of forty-five local growers.
This organisation fell apart after which M. Duboeuf became a negociant in 1964 at the age of 31.
He was recognised as the man that almost started the Beaujolais Nouveau phenomenon and the company; he founded now produces some 2.5 million cases of wine annually.
M. Deboeuf became known as the King or Pope of Beaujolais.
He died in 2020 having already passed control of his company to his son, Franck Duboeuf.
With this pedigree, we were optimistic of experiencing an excellent wine.
The wine is a garnet colour, and it has a very delicate nose with the smell of red berries and a touch of violet.
Taste wise the wine is very thin and very tannic which some people enjoy, but unfortunately for us, we do not.
In our view, the tannins were too strong for the strength of the taste.
To summarise, unfortunately, we were both disappointed!
